Dr Emilie Bouhsira (DVM, MSc., PhD, Dip. EVPC, EBVS® Specialist in Parasitology) has been an associate professor of parasitology at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, France since 2015.  She obtained her PhD degree (which focused on the transmission of Bartonella spp. by the cat flea Ctenocephalides felis) in 2014 from the University of Toulouse and was awarded the Leopold Escande laureate prize for the best PhD thesis.  She completed her studies in 2016 with a degree in entomology from the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

Her research area mainly focuses on vector-borne agents, especially flea-borne pathogens and agents transmitted by the stable fly Stomoxys calcitrans and resistance to insecticides in fleas and flies.  She has more than 10 years' experience in the design and realisation of clinical studies aimed at determining the efficacy of ectoparasiticides against fleas, flies, sand flies and mosquitoes in cats and dogs.

Emilie is a board member of the European Veterinary Parasitology College and a member of the WAAVP guidelines subcommittee; she is also the treasurer of the French Society of Parasitology.  She was the treasurer of ESCCAP France for several years, before becoming its president in December 2019.

She also organises the “Entomology Summer Course” which was first held in Toulouse between 26th and 30th August 2019.  This event attracts 15 participants from all over the world including key-note speakers from Europe and the United States.
