Manuela Schnyder is a group leader in veterinary parasitology at the Institute of Parasitology in the Vetsuisse- and Medical Faculty, University of Zurich (Switzerland).  She graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Zurich in 1999.  She then completed her doctoral thesis at the University of Berne and from 2001 to 2003 she worked as a practicing veterinarian (companion animals and farm animals) in different parts of Switzerland and in France.  She was then employed as an assistant and senior assistant at the Institute of Parasitology in Zurich.  During this time she obtained her board certification for the European Veterinary Parasitology College (Dipl. EVPC) in 2011 and the Swiss specialist title for Parasitology in Laboratory Medicine in 2012.  In 2013, she performed her habilitation with a thesis entitled “New insights into the diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis and epidemiology of the metastrongylid nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum in dogs”.  In 2018, she was appointed Adjunct Professor and in 2024 was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Zurich.

Professor Schnyder is also a member of several professional organisations.  Since 2011 she has served as Presidential Member of the Swiss section of the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites (ESCCAP) and has been the elected president since 2012.

Her primary research interests focus on cardiopulmonary nematodes of dogs and cats.  Her broader research encompasses various aspects of parasite infections across multiple animal species, with the goal of improving animal health, welfare and productivity, including parasites of zoonotic relevance.

She is co-author of more than 125 peer-reviewed publications and has been an invited speaker at many national and international conferences and symposia.
