Manuela Schnyder is a group leader in veterinary parasitology at the Institute of Parasitology in the Vetsuisse- and Medical Faculty, University of Zurich (Switzerland). She graduated in veterinary medicine at the University of Zurich in 1999. Afterwards, she performed her doctoral thesis at the University of Berne and from 2001 to 2003 she worked as a veterinarian in veterinary practices (companion animals and farm animals) in different parts of Switzerland and in France. She was then employed as an assistant and senior assistant at the Institute of Parasitology in Zurich. During this time she obtained her board certification for the European Veterinary Parasitology College in 2011 and the Swiss specialist title for Parasitology in Laboratory Medicine in 2012.

She is also a member of several professional organisations. Since 2010 she has been treasurer and a committee member of the Swiss Society for Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (SSTMP). Since 2011 she had been a Presidential Member of the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites, Swiss Section (ESCCAP) and has been the elected President from 2012.

Her main research focus is cardiopulmonary nematodes of dogs and cats. Further research spreads over different aspects of parasite infections in a wide array of animals aiming at better animal health, welfare, and productivity, and includes parasites of zoonotic relevance.  In 2013 she performed her habilitation with the title “New insights into the diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis and epidemiology of the metastrongylid nematode Angiostrongylus vasorum in dogs”.

She is co-author of more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and was an invited speaker at many international and national conferences and symposia.
